Weird and wonderful fragrances of 2008

The scent of male changing rooms might not be to your taste but Scent of Success is just another of the weird and wonderful scents making it into this year's fragrance hall of fame.

Sports Interactive, the maker of the computer game Football Manager, is releasing a perfume to be distributed with the new edition of the game launched last month, according to press reports.

The company claims the fragrance plays with a number of scents found in the dressing rooms of successful teams, and may even inspire the winning spirit in those who wear it.

Whether eau de old football socks will be a success with the ladies, however, remains to be seen.

And indeed, can it fight off the fiery competition of seductive flame broiled meat for the top spot in the 2008 weird and wonderful fragrance hall of fame?

A seductive scent with a hint of flame broiled meat is the latest offering from Burger King, promising to capture the essence of love America holds for the Whopper.

The scorching spray retails at only $4 so smelling like a chargrilled hamburger will not break the bank, even in these difficult economic times.

Another contender from 2008 is the essence of equality launched by the Catalan Socialist Party.

The left-wing party released the fragrance, which embodies values of ‘confidence, equality, progress and efficiency’, back in January of this year.

Runners up can certainly be found within Christopher Brosius’ ‘I Hate Perfume’ range. Some of the most intriguing include ‘Winter 1972 – a field of untouched fallen snow, hand knit woollen mittens covered with frost, a hint of frozen forest and sleeping earth’ and ‘In the Summer Kitchen – fresh garden vegetables and herbs on a clear summer evening with a touched of smoked old wooden rafters’.
