Lip gloss claims to help you slim
the collaboration between the food and cosmetics industries to a
new level.
The lip gloss is the result of a partnership between Too Faced cosmetics and Fuze, a Coca Cola-owned producer of energizing and slimming drinks.
The gloss promises to provide high shine whilst delivering appetite suppressing and energy boosting ingredients.
The product comes in three flavours that mirror Fuze's beverage range and includes the same active ingredients such as chromium, L-Carnitine and Super Citrimax.
The chromium improves the amount of energy received from food and the L-Carnitine is an energy boosting amino acid, said Fuze.
However, it is the inclusion of the slimming ingredient Super Citrimax which is likely to cause the biggest stir.
The ingredient, a hydroxycitric acid extract, is one of the most widely used diet ingredients and is thought to inhibit fatty acid and cholesterol synthesis.
According to the company, applying the Super Citrimax-containing lip gloss will help to suppress the appetite providing 'a pretty plump pout with an added bonus of healthy, energy boosting, appetite curbing ingredients that taste just like its Fuze Slenderize drink counterparts'.
The lip gloss line was released on the January 1 st just in time to help consumers keep up their New Year's diet and beauty resolutions, inspired by the motto 'a moment on the lips a lifetime on the hips', a company spokesperson told CosmeticsDesign.com.
The product launch appears to exploit the trend for closer relationships between the food and cosmetics industries that has so far been characterised by the beauty from within trend.
Indeed, growing numbers of functional food companies are releasing product ranges specifically designed to benefit skin, hair and nails.
Earlier this week Israeli company Solbar extended its range of Solgen soy isoflavone extracts that have been designed for both oral and topical use in beauty products.
In fact, this is not Coca Cola's first foray into the market.
In 2006 it launched Yokuasa Purun in the Asian market.
Fortified with cysteine, hyaluronic acid, ceramide, vitamin C and biotin, the milk-based beverage should be drunk last thing at night to promote beautiful skin during sleep.
