The company, based in France, developed the Rosemary extract ingredient in order to target cosmetics that are labelled 'organic and natural' due to exceptional consumer demand for such beauty products.
A spokesperson for the company stated: "RosEssential is the solution for organic cosmetic companies seeking organic compliant ingredients which fall into the FDA category of having natural flavour, no irradiation, and no synthetic compounds".
The organic cosmetic market is growing at an unprecedented rate. Market research company Organic Monitor has estimated that the European market for natural and organic cosmetic products is currently growing at 20 per cent a year, and set to surpass a value of €1bn. However, due to this growth natural ingredients are in high demand with many companies competing to source them.
UK supermarket giants Tesco has recently launched an own label organic personal care range. However, they have stated that not all products within the range are wholly organic and natural due to the limited supply of produce.
The ingredient by Naturex has qualities that allow for a natural way of controlling rancidity that occurs in cosmetic products due to the oxidation process. This is done possible due to Rosemary containing Rosmarinic acid that is an antioxidant and a natural phenol.
The company states that RosEssential is water extract of rosemary, which has been standardized to 9 per cent Rosmarinic acid and listed in the International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredient (INCI) directory as 'Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract'.
Following the recent ECOCERT approval, the ingredient is due to be integrated into the cosmetics industry and the company hopes it will prove beneficial to the supply and demand problems that are current with the organic beauty market at present.
"This (ECOCERT) approval ensures that RosEssential is manufactured sustainably, allowing its integration into cosmetics products labelled 'natural and organic'." the spokesperson said.
