Valeant launches combined anti-aging and sunscreen line

Valeant Pharmaceuticals has launched two new products that combine comprehensive moisturizing properties with an SPF 30 sunscreen, tapping into the growing market for increasingly comprehensive multi-functional products that provide prevention with protection.

The Kinerase Cream with SPF 30 and Kinerase Lotion with SPF 30 primarily tap into the growing awareness for the need to tackle the problem of providing a treatment that treats signs of aging as well as providing protection against one of the primary causes of aging - the sun.

Although combined moisturizer and sunscreen products have now been available for many years, there is a distinct move towards increasingly effective products that provide comprehensive sunscreen properties.

When the first combined moisturizer and sunscreen products first hit stores shelves, often they didn't even specify what the Sun Protection Factor they contained. Slowly they moved towards more comprehensive protection, with such products now often containing SPF 15.

However Valeant's new product line is a step towards providing a combined product with even more comprehensive protection, tapping into growing awareness about the dangers of excessive sun exposure, both to health and to the skin itself.

The two new products have also been developed using the most advanced ingredients to ensure sunscreen protection. Theycontain Titanium Dioxide, Zinc Oxide and Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate (EHMC) encapsulated in the patented QuSome technology to ensure delivery and protective benefit.

Valeant says that these ingredients work together to protect the skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays that can cause premature aging and hyperpigmentation. Additionally, 0.1 per cent kinetin is encapsulated in the same QuSome technology to fight aging signs such as fine lines and wrinkles.

Kinetin is a plant growth factor that allows the skin to maintain moisture levels. According to a 24-week study conducted to test Kinerease lotion, the inclusion of the ingredient meant that 90 per cent of participants reported an improvement in the texture of their skin.

Consumers seems to agree with the findings, as a February 2006 Kline Report cites Kinerase as being the fastest-growing brand in the professional skin care category.

The two new extensions to the brand, which are being launched in the US this month, are non-comedogenic, hypoallergenic, fragrance-free and dye-free. This means that they are safe to use on sensitive skins as well as those suffering from skin conditions suxh as roscacea.
