Cert signs distribution contract with Belmon Cosmetics

In the UK Belmon Cosmetics has signed a distribution and warehousing contract with supply chain specialist Cert.

The new contract comprises all Belmon's warehousing and distribution operations throughout the UK, something that had previously been carried out by the cosmetics company in-house.

Belmon, which is a distributor of colour cosmetics and hair care products to leading suppliers, said that it gave serious consideration to whether or not it should outsource the contract following the a lease renewal on the warehouse premises that it occupied.

After serious consideration of its existing warehousing arrangements, the company decided that its premises were too large for its requirements and that this was leading to cost inefficiencies. Calculations then showed that it would cost less to out-source their logistics activities and relocate to smaller premises.

Under the new contract Cert will manage the warehousing and distribution for the cosmetics company's entire portfolio as well as providing contract packing services as part of the deal. All of these operations will be managed from Cert's bonded, shared distribution centre in Rotherham, northern England.

The Cert distribution centre receives and processes order from all over the world via its web-based ordering system, Cert Online. Each consignment is then picked and distributed throughout the UK using the company's transport network.

Ameen Kalla, managing director at Belmon Cosmetics, said that the company's flexible approach to both distribution and transportation had been key to securing the contract. She added that, "Cert has experience within the health and beauty sector. This meant that with its order processing and POD retrieval web based systems combined with its in-house contract packing, the company proved they had the capabilities to cater to our needs."

Eric Vose, Cert operation support manager said, "The implementation took place over a space of three weeks; this short timescale was to allow for Belmon Cosmetics to vacate their premises in accordance with the lease terms. Despite this we have had a smooth implementation of transferring their stock into our site in Rotherham."
