CPL Aromas launches range of organic fragrance ingredients

Soil Association certified, the UK-based company is hoping the range will appeal to manufacturers looking to create truly organic products for their consumers.

Move from natural to organic ​

“We have always had natural fragrances available, but until now the creation of an organic range hasn’t been practical. Now we feel it is commercially viable,”​ explained CPL Aromas’ Francis Pickthall.

Although the development of the range is in response to demand, the market still remains undeveloped and creating the range was not easy.

The most difficult aspect is the sourcing of organic raw materials, Pickthall told CosmeticsDesign.com.

“There are obviously restrictions on formulators of natural ingredients, but organic fragrance creation is even more restricted,”​ he said.

However, the situation is likely to improve in the future as the demand for such ingredients grows and the number of raw materials suppliers increase.

“People want things to be organic and this is definitely the way the industry is going. And this is why we have decided to follow this direction,” ​he said.

In the short term the development of such fragrances is likely to be more expensive than synthetic alternatives, but Pickthall expects this will also change as the market grows.

Fine fragrances are more sophisticated​

The CPL Aroma range is suitable for both the development of personal care and fine fragrances, although the company expects more interest from the former.

“Fine fragrances need a level of sophistication that is more difficult to provide from the range of organic essential oils available to us,”​ he said.

Having said that the company will continue to develop the range, and, depending on the raw materials available, the suitability for more sophisticated fine fragrances may grow.
