Innovative beauty ingredients: industry focuses on the science behind the glamour

According to organisers, more than 1200 industry professionals will participate in this major international event, with the programme offering six international keynote speakers, 72 presentations, and two workshops.

This year’s IFSCC will be showcasing new key trends in cosmetology, including beauty in life science, colour, society, physicochemistry, protection and sensoriality. Here, Cosmetics Design picks out the upcoming highlights.

What to look out for on Day One and Two…​

The four day event, which spans from Monday 27 to Thursday 30 October, kicks off with a regulatory compliance and a predictive methods workshop, which will focus on EU cosmetics regulation within a global framework.

These are followed by the event’s opening ceremony, which features a keynote lecture on ‘senses and sensitivity’ from Pr. Christine Petit from the Collège de France in association L’Oreal Research and Innovation. The first day is due to close with a welcome reception in the exhibition space.

The second day of the show is set to be launched by Dominique Bernard, L’Oreal R&I, who will deliver the day’s keynote presentation on ‘learning from omics technologies’. Other speakers throughout the day include Miki Nakanishi from Kose on stem cell technologies, and Jennifer Marsh from P&G on UV’s impact on hair.

What to look out for on Day Three and Four…​

Wednesday will focus on the biological function of the skin, with a series of presentations on ‘beauty and surface shield: physiochemistry’, which will be initiated by the day’s lead speaker, Françoise Brochard from the Institut Curie on soft matter models of tissue.

The day is set to round off with a symposium by L’Oreal on sustainable innovation, which will be chaired by William Russel and Laurent Gilbert.

The show’s final day will again feature a series of presentations, this time considering biological defence mechanisms in the skin, and beauty and senoriality, and will close with the closing ceremony in Musée des Arts Forains.
