Symrise has become the first company to receive awards in two
categories in the BSB Innovations Awards, held at the InCosmetics
show in Paris last month.

The France-based fragrance and flavours manufacturers received recognition for both its SymRelief and SymRepair products at the award ceremony - consolidating its position as a market leader within the personal care industry.

Symrise won the 'Innovative Natural Raw Materials' category with its SymRelief product, an anti-irritant made of natural bisabolol and ginger extract.

The company received the award for its discovery that the addition of the ginger extract intensifies the anti-irritant effect of bisabolol.

Likewise, the award for 'Innovative Functional Raw Materials' was given to the company for its research into its SymRepair product - a lipid mixture that is said to allow the skin to regenerate and maintain its natural protective function, due to its similarity to the blend of lipids in the skin's outer most layers.

The company developed the materials to be used in a wide variety of products on the personal care market, in particular skin care ranges that target sensitive or dry skin whilst also combating acne and ageing.

However, the formulas are also said to be useful for sun protection.

The company suggests that adding both SymRelief and SymRepair to sun care and after care products would help protect the skin from the anti-ageing effects of the sun.

The awards will no doubt boost Symrise's position within the cosmetics industry.

The company also makes a concerted effort to stay ahead of competitors, launching ingredient innovations that target current cosmetics manufacturing trends.

The company has recently capitalised on the trend for cosmetics that include food ingredients, and that consequently blur the boundaries between the two industries, with the launch of the Chocolate Extrapone line.

Introduced into its Botanicals range, the new line makes use of the cocoa extracted from the Theobroma Cacao (cocoa) tree and provides a vital source of nutrients to the skin.

Likewise, the company has recently announced the expansion of its citrus flavours and fragrance activities in Brazil in a bid to benefit from the growing consumer desire for fruit ingredients in their personal care products.
